Our global sustainability partnership to conserve the world’s rivers and oceans
At Aqua Expeditions, we sail some of the world’s most remote destinations – venturing into forests, islands, and beaches, best explored through their unique waterways. For years, we’ve had the pleasure of exploring these pristine rivers and oceans, leaving our guests with memories that are sure to last a lifetime.
As of 2024, we have embarked on a global partnership with 4Ocean to protect these incredible destinations from the threat of plastic pollution, ensuring that their pristine natural wonders may be explored for generations to come. This new global partnership represents a key pillar of Aqua’s commitment to conserve aquatic biodiversity across all the destinations we sail.
Why 4Ocean?
Founded in 2017, 4Ocean is an ocean cleanup company dedicated to ending the ocean plastic crisis. Today, the company is responsible for a global clean up operation which annually recovers millions of pounds of plastic from the world’s oceans, rivers, and coastlines.
By partnering with 4Ocean, Aqua Expeditions joins a collective endeavor – undertaken by individuals and corporations around the globe – to protect the future of our rivers and oceans. Through this partnership, Aqua is committed to the removal of at least 25,000 pounds of plastic from the planet’s waterways each year.
Annual Clean-Up Activations
Alongside this commitment, Aqua will also lead activations on board our entire fleet, for targeted clean-ups across the destinations which we sail. This is an extension of our ongoing efforts to protect these regions where, in the past, we have led projects such as the beach clean-up in partnership with the Indonesian Waste Platform (IWP).
Conducted in 2023, this project oversaw the clean-up of the shores of Horseshoe Bay, the only place in the world where Komodo Dragons can be found in their natural habitat. It included educational efforts to involve the local community in protecting the future of these beaches and stress the importance of responsible waste management.
Get Involved
All guests sailing with Aqua Expeditions have the opportunity to contribute and join our mission to conserve aquatic biodiversity around the globe. On board all of our vessels, guests will be able to purchase custom-made bracelets created using recovered ocean plastic. Each bracelet represents five pounds of plastic removed from the world’s rivers and oceans.
The mission to globally clean-up our oceans, rivers, and waterways is one which requires collective involvement from individuals, corporations, and governments. It is estimated that up to 200 million tonnes of plastic can be found in our water bodies today, causing devastating harm to aquatic life and habitats. We all have a key role to play in addressing this challenge and preserving the future of our precious ecosystems.
